The workshop will take place on July 1, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Pacific Time, and offers 2.0 APA Continuing Education (CE) Credits for eligible participants.

Exploring the Frontiers of Virtual Reality in Trauma Treatment


The session will be led by Professor Albert "Skip" Rizzo, Ph.D., a globally recognized pioneer in clinical virtual reality, digital mental health, and immersive healthcare technologies. Dr. Rizzo serves as Director of Medical Virtual Reality at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies and Research Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Southern California (USC).


Drawing upon more than two decades of clinical research and innovation, Dr. Rizzo will examine how virtual reality technologies are transforming the assessment and treatment of trauma-related conditions. The workshop will review the development and clinical impact of the pioneering BRAVEMIND Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (VRET) system and explore the expanding role of VR in treating military combat trauma, military sexual trauma (MST), civilian trauma, and war-related psychological injuries.


Participants will also gain insights into emerging applications including:

  • Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (VRET) for PTSD

  • Trauma-focused interventions for military personnel and veterans

  • Virtual Ukraine and Virtual Israel/Gaza initiatives

  • Metaverse-enabled social support environments

  • VR approaches for children affected by trauma

  • VR-enhanced mindfulness and resilience training

  • AI-powered virtual human support technologies for mental healthcare
